Dodgers star Matt Kemp will be fined for his harsh remarks about Dale Scott’s strike zone in Game 3 of the NLDS game with the Cardinals, sources say.
There was a lot of complaining in that game, and some who have viewed the tape agree it wasn’t Scott’s best night (in other words, he wasn’t very good). It isn’t believed Kemp’s fine will be mitigated by Scott’s off night — Kemp was called out on a pitch a few inches outside in the ninth inning — but it won’t prevent him from receiving a fine. One person said, speaking generally, they would be taken as separate matters.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had called Scott’s strike zone “very generous” after the game.
But Kemp is the one who really spoke out. After the Dodgers’ 3-1 Game 3 defeat in St. Louis, Kemp said, “Terrible. Terrible strike zone. I’ve never seen anything like it. The umpire took the bat out of our hands. When you’ve got balls in the other batters box …
“You’ve got to be accountable, man. When we do bad things, we get punished. We can get sent down. When stuff like that happens, you should be gone. There should be some type of punishment.”
As it turned out, Kemp is the one who’ll be punished.
