Week 7 NFL Picks: Latest Betting Odds, Vegas Spreads and Projections – Bleacher Report
The 2014 NFL season continues to be a fickle beast when it comes to betting. Some bets are cut-and-dried while others look magnificent on paper but quickly fall apart once the teams hit the gridiron.
Week 6 saw several examples of each scenario, as a double-digit win by the Denver Broncos over the New York Jets was nearly a sure thing, while the Oakland Raiders finishing within three points of the San Diego Chargers was sheer madness.
By Week 7, we should be expecting the unexpected. Glancing at the 15 games on the slate, and taking into consideration the opening lines for each, we can expect another turbulent week in the NFL. Let’s predict the winner of each impending game against the spread and highlight a few that look more certain than others.

Not everyone believed the Patriots were back in form after a Week 5 drubbing of an imploding Cincinnati Bengals team; however, that thought should be altered following the team’s dismantling of the Buffalo Bills in Week 6.
Tom Brady looked as sharp as ever, completing 27 of his 37 passing attempts for 361 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a passer rating of 139.6. With improved chemistry with wide receiver Brandon LaFell, a seemingly healthy Rob Gronkowski and the always reliable Julian Edelman in the fold, it looks like there’s no slowing down for this future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Frenz tweeted his take on the Brady-LaFell connection:
Brandon LaFell took a minute to get started, but he has come on strong, and fast. Has definitely earned Tom Brady’s trust.

The way Jets quarterback Geno Smith has looked lately, we can assume New York will be relying heavily on the run to move the chains. Well, considering the Patriots holding Buffalo’s dynamic backs to an average of 3.0 yards per carry, and the Jets only averaging 2.1 yards on the ground in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, New England appears to have the upper hand across the board.
Adding home-field advantage to a laundry list of reasons why they’ll win big, it’s pretty easy to think the Patriots will emerge as big winners in Week 7.
Prediction: Patriots 31, Jets 17
Buffalo Bills (-3.5) vs. Minnesota Vikings

In case you missed how extremely terrible Minnesota’s offensive line was in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions, let’s break it down really quick. Rookie signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater was ransacked all day long, resulting in 12 quarterback pressures, eight sacks and three interceptions. Making matters worse, the Vikings were only able to average 3.8 yards per rush.
Here’s a look at Bridgewater‘s rough day, courtesy of NFL on CBS:

After that immense game by the Lions, they are now ranked first in the league with 20 sacks this season. Take one good guess at who’s tied for second. That would be the Bills with 19.
Not only has Buffalo’s front seven been dynamic this season, but this team has been decent on offense since Kyle Orton overtook EJ Manuel as the team’s starter. Through two games this season, Orton has thrown for 607 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. That may not be overwhelmingly flashy, but it should suffice against an average Minnesota defense.
Expect the Bills to pressure Bridgewater early and often while their offense puts up enough points to cover this small spread.
Prediction: Bills 23, Vikings 16
Dallas Cowboys (-5) vs. New York Giants

Don’t look now, but the Cowboys may arguably be the best team in the NFL. Dallas marched into Seattle and defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks by a score of 30-23 after dominating in all phases of the game.
This run-first offense employed by Dallas has been fantastic. The team has leaned on running back DeMarco Murray, and he’s delivered with six consecutive 100-yard rushing performances and six touchdowns. This tweet from SportsCenter sums up the ball-carrier’s year nicely:

With Murray handling more of the workload, quarterback Tony Romo has been as efficient as ever. Against Seattle’s vaunted secondary, he completed 21 of his 32 passing attempts for 250 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions and a passer rating of 110.2.
Even more surprising is the way the Dallas defense has been performing. After only allowing one offensive touchdown against the Seahawks in Week 6, the unit is now tied for seventh in the NFL in points against with an average of 21.0 per game.
A favorable matchup against an inconsistent Giants team that only racked up 253 yards of offense against a porous Philadelphia Eagles defense further solidifies the thought that the Cowboys will come away with a big game in their own stadium in Week 7.
Prediction: Cowboys 27, Giants 13
