England U21s earn Euro 2015 spot
England under-21s have qualified for the 2015 European Championship after a 2-1 victory over Croatia in the second leg of their play-off on Tuesday.
Gareth Southgate’s men headed into the match in Vinkovci with a 2-1 lead from the first leg and Liam Moore grabbed a vital away goal inside the first 10 minutes.
Tom Carroll whipped in a corner and Moore was left completely unmarked to make a run to the edge of the six-yard box and place a volley into the top corner for his first international goal.
Marko Livaja equalised before the break with a smart finish past Jack Butland but Will Hughes fired England back ahead to make it 4-2 on aggregate and secure their ticket to the Czech Republic.
Spain, however, will not defend their European Under-21 Championship title in the next summer after they were beaten by Serbia.
The Spaniards had won the tournament in 2011 and 2013 but, after a goalless draw in the first leg in Serbia, they lost 2-1 in Cadiz and will miss out on the showpiece next summer.
Italy completed a 4-2 win against Slovakia over two legs while Germany won 2-0 on the night to see off Ukraine 5-0 on aggregate. Portugal beat Netherlands 5-4 in a thriller to advance 7-4 and Denmark overcame Iceland on away goals after a 1-1 draw.
