Bo says Jameis ‘needs to make some changes’
Bo Jackson said he has spoken to Jameis Winston in the past. (USATSI) As a former Heisman Trophy winner and an on-campus legend at Auburn, Bo Jackson knows a little bit about the spotlight that comes with being a lightning-rod superstar like Jameis Winston.
Which is why it wasn’t a surprise that during his appearance on CBS Sports Radio’s Jim Rome Show on Tuesday, Jackson told Rome that he has spoken to Winston in the past. But Jackson made it sound as if that conversation hadn’t been repeated recently, and that Jackson isn’t a fan of some of Winston’s recent off-field actions.
“Jameis Winston needs to make some changes in his life,” Jackson said. “Because it’s affecting him now and it’s definitely going to affect him down the road.”
“I’m the type of person, I will go out of my way to help anybody,” Jackson said about the pair’s communication. “Normally, I don’t like giving people advice if I haven’t been down that road myself. But if I give you advice on something that I know more about than you by just falling out of bed in the morning, if you can’t take that advice and learn from it, then I’ve got nothing else to do with the situation. You’re on your own.”
Asked what he said to Winston, Jackson told Rome, “If I told you what I told him, it’ll probably singe the hairs in your ears.”
Florida State is investigating the possibility that Winston was paid to sign the hundreds of memorabilia items available for sale, though Jimbo Fisher has said he does not expect Winston to miss any games for any reason.
