Tiger Woods hangs with Raiders fans during San Diego game
Hey, look who showed up at the Oakland Raiders game on Sunday! That’s none other than Tiger Woods, golfer extraordinaire and alum of nearby Stanford.
Woods generally lives in Florida, close to the home of the Dolphins, but he was back in California to induct his friend and fellow golfer Notah Begay III into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame. (The PGA Tour’s Frys.com Open is also nearby, but Woods, sidelined for several weeks with a back injury, is nowhere near in golf playing shape just yet.)
“I get juiced up for any Raiders game,” Woods told USA Today in 2012. “And I do get juiced for the NFL season, especially now that I have a few friends who play in the league. It’s something when you see your friends get hit, get knocked down, and they’re not getting up. I get worried because there’s my buddy on the ground. I’ll text them to see if they’re OK, and then I get texts back while they’re in the locker room getting worked on. They text stuff like they’re getting bandaged up or they don’t know if they are going to be able to play, but they’re going to try.” Kind of makes a stressful putt to win a tournament seem a little, well, anticlimactic, doesn’t it?
Anyway, Woods usually wears red and black on Sundays in honor of his alma mater, but the all-black look isn’t bad. He ought to try that … and bring a few of the Oakland Raiders faithful to cheer him on next April in Augusta, too.
