Bills fans welcome Pegula era with enormous sign, t-shirts
Terry Pegula won the bidding derby to purchase the Buffalo Bills, besting Jon Bon Jovi and Donald Trump along the way, and don’t think the fans aren’t grateful. Prior to Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, the fans displayed cards that, when unified, read “One Buffalo.”
It’s part of a collective celebration/exhalation at the fact that the team will remain in Buffalo when a move to Toronto seemed a very real possiiblity as recently as a few weeks ago. Buffalo hasn’t had much success in the 2000s, but the team has entered a promising phase in its development. And Pegula, so far, has done everything exactly right, from promising that the team will stay in town to offering up charming text messages to his daughter about the sale.
Bills fans also received a “One Buffalo” t-shirt at the game, which was a surprisingly compelling matchup with New England of teams tied for first place in the AFC East:
Owners with a direct connection to the fans are a dwindling number. And while the Bills’ ultimate success won’t rely on cheery owners or catchy slogans, the Pegula era in Buffalo is beginning on a strong note.
