Royals’ Mike Moustakas is hitting homers like a beast this postseason
Mike Moustakas hit his fourth home run of the postseason Saturday, a tie-breaking blast to right field at Camden Yards that put his Kansas City Royals ahead briefly in a back-and-forth Game 2 of the ALCS.
This is the same Mike Moustakas who was sent to Triple-A this season for being unproductive, the same guy who hit three homers from July 23 until the game of the regular season.
In other words, he’s hitting homers like a beast right now. Royals fans have been waiting for Moustakas to realize his potential — he was the second overall pick in 2007, and he hit 36 homers in Double-A and Triple-A in 2010.
Four homers in six postseason games? And in three straight games? Yeah, that’s something to remember. Moustakas’ four homers tie him with Willie Aikens for the Royals’ postseason record. Aikens hit four in nine games in 1980.
Moustakas’ homers have all been significant too. The first one was an extra-innings game-winner in Game 1 of the ALDS. The second came in the Royals’ ALDS clincher. He hit one Friday night in Game 1 of the ALCS in the 10th inning, a two-run homer that helped the Royals win 8-6.
At this rate, you have to figure Moustakas will claim the franchise record as his own before long.
