Reporter hilariously tries to raise ‘ALCS’ awareness without luck
You might know Katie Nolan of Fox Sports from her recent video essay skewering of the NFL, along with the media that doesn’t hold the league accountable, over its lack of respect for women.
This baseball-related video isn’t so much about social, political or ethical values, but instead ignorance of another kind. It combines two themes: First, it pivots off the wildly successful (and hyped) ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, conflating it with the supposition that your typical person on the street doesn’t know much about the teams playing in the American League Championship Series. And there’s probably a lot of truth in the latter, considering the Kansas City Royals (1985) and Baltimore Orioles (1983) haven’t won the World Series in the lifetime of many of the current players (or fans).
The results are as funny as a similar kind of bit you might watch on Jimmy Kimmel or Jimmy Fallon or Conan O’Brien. Can any of these people name just one player on either team? Without using the internet? Or being told first? Or even:
Katie Nolan: So, we’re out here today raising awareness about ALCS. Have you ever heard of it?
Man in Blue Fleece: Absolutely.
KN: What do you know about it?
Blue Fleece: Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Eventually, some of the people get a clue over 3 1/2 funny minutes.
Out of curiosity, how many Royals and Orioles players can you name without using any resources but your memory?
