Here are the Cleveland Cavaliers’ new (well, ‘new’) navy blue alternate uniforms
The 2014-15 Cleveland Cavaliers season is all about leaving behind the disappointing recent past and embracing a future filled with boundless possibility — a new season, new All-NBA starting frontcourt, new head coach with a new offense, new monster jumbotron hanging over a new home court and now, new alternate uniforms.
The navy blue alternates, which owner Dan Gilbert teased in a Wednesday tweet, will make their debut during the Cavs’ Oct. 30 home opener against the New York Knicks. As Scott Sargent of Cleveland blog Waiting for Next Year notes, though, this is more an “everything old is new again” type of situation, since the new look “harnesses an old alternate design that the team unveiled a couple years back during a CavFanatic night back in 2012.”
Navy blue uniforms were also a staple of the Cavs’ rotation during LeBron James’ first stint with the franchise:
This time around, they’ll be rotated “with the existing gold uniform to serve as the official alternates to the team’s home white and wine road uniforms throughout the season.”
As the uniform mock-up shows, the jersey will feature the phrase “All for One. One for All” — described as the Cavs’ “DNA statement,” an organizational slogan stretching back to the time before LeBron’s exit that became a more frequently trumpeted catchphrase after his departure — along the hemline as “a readable inspiration to players.” (Well, those who don’t have their jerseys tucked in, anyway.)
For a sensible take on the Cavs’ new/old aesthetic direction, we turn to Brian Mahoney of The Associated Press:
Sounds about right. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Seems like the Cavs are just about ready for their big night.
