Daughter of newest NFL owner Terry Pegula learns via text: ‘We own Bills’
Ah, to be a billionaire natural gas tycoon’s daughter. Wake up, head to your tennis lesson in sunny Boca Raton, Fla., check for any text messages and — wait, what’s that, dad just bought an NFL franchise?
That appears to be how new Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula let his daughter know he and his wife Kim had been unanimously approved by the league’s owners as the newest members of the elite club. Above a reminder about her dog Dex’s veterinary appointment was a simple text from dad: “We own Bills.”

No big deal. Mom and dad just bought the Bills for $1.4 billion, giving the family a monopoly on pro sports franchises in their hometown (they also own the Buffalo Sabres, in case that wasn’t clear). Surely, Jessie Pegula — a 20-year-old professional tennis player currently ranked 516th in the world — pressed play on her Pandora’s DJ Khaled station and sang along to his verse on Birdman’s “100 Million.”
Cash Money millionaires, Cash Money billionaires,
Cash Money trillionaires, we rich,
We ain’t neva gonna stop, neva,
We got money …
Meanwhile, I just checked my phone, and the only text message was: “We owe bills.” Gotta go.
