Auburn police investigating threatening tweets
I spend a lot of time on Twitter as part of my job, and it’s a decent reflection of the real world. Just like anywhere else you go, on Twitter there are a lot of stupid people saying a lot of stupid things. Stupid things that can sometimes get you in some trouble.
For instance, the Auburn Police Department is reportedly investigating some tweets made by a user on Twitter who has threatened to blow up Jordan-Hare Stadium and behead Auburn coach Gus Malzahn. While the tweets have since been deleted, AL.com has screenshots of the tweets that led to the investigation.
Auburn police chief Paul Register says they are investigating the tweets to find out who sent them, and to determine whether or not there’s an actual threat. Odds are there isn’t, as Register says the tweeter @bhayess4420 lives out of state and has a history of ranting against sports teams.
So, you know, he’s the typical idiot who would spell bummed “bumbed.”
Still, considering the history of morons making threats against Auburn and actually following through — hello, Harvey Updyke — it’s hard to blame Auburn police for looking into it. Even if the person making the threats is just your average, everyday moron.
