Adrian Peterson will have December 1 trial date, attorney Rustin Hardin said Wednesday, following Peterson’s arraignment in a Montgomery County (Texas) courtroom. As expected, the Vikings running back did not enter a plea.
Peterson, who hasn’t played since Week 1 after he was charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child — specifically: he beat his four-year-old son with a switch leaving welts and bruises — was placed on the Exempt/Commissioner’s Permission list on Sept. 17.
The organization made the decision 48 hours after announcing that Peterson would return to the team while due process played out. But criticism from fans and media and, more importantly, threats from sponsors spurred the Vikings to reconsider.
Rusty Hardin said the Peterson case is on the docket for Dec. 1. “Adrian is chomping at the bit to publicly talk.” Has been advised not to.

Hardin also said the Dec. 1 trail date isn’t set in stone, and that he has asked for “a quick, speedy trial.”
If Peterson’s trial does take place in December, his 2014 season is effectively over.
Several weeks ago, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora wrote about Peterson’s long-term prospects in Minnesota.
“Given the potential financial ramifications from sponsors or otherwise, to say nothing of the damage being done to the team’s image — and at a time where a new stadium is being constructed that includes almost $500 million public funding — further botching of this situation only would exacerbate the team’s problems. Parting with Peterson this season or in the offseason may be the only end-game that makes sense, financially and in the court of public perception.”
