Brett Favre happy that Peyton Manning will break his TD record
Brett Favre’s reaction to losing one of his greatest records was unpredictable. He has seemed to mellow in retirement but he’s also, shall we say, famous for enjoying the spotlight a bit. His annual retirement saga is still worth a quick joke, and he hasn’t even played since 2010.
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is going to break Favre’s career record for touchdown passes. Manning joined Favre as the only two members of the 500-touchdown club last week, and he’ll pass Favre’s record in the next week or two. Manning has 503 touchdown passes. Favre finished with 508. It’s not out of the question Manning could break the record this week against the New York Jets, or at least the following week against the San Francisco 49ers.
And how does Favre feel about it? It’s fine.
“I’m glad it’s Peyton that’s doing it,” Favre said in a phone interview with Arnie Stapleton of the Associated Press. “I think a lot of Peyton. I know him well. I know his family well. His dad was one of my idols.”
Favre is from Mississippi, and Manning’s father Archie Manning was a college football legend at Ole Miss.

It’s good for the game that Favre is joining in the celebration of Manning breaking one of the sport’s biggest records, and he probably realizes that Manning breaking his record is not only inevitable but it doesn’t affect his legacy at all. And it probably helps that it’s not Aaron Rodgers doing it.
