Cardinals, already without Carson Palmer, see Drew Stanton go down too
Drew Stanton filled in capably for the Arizona Cardinals while starter Carson Palmer was hurt, but the Cardinals suddenly found themselves in an even worse situation when Stanton went down.
Stanton was hit by Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller and driven to the turf. Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews said the Cardinals’ training staff looked at Stanton’s left shoulder and then he went back to the locker room for further evaluation. Rookie Logan Thomas, a fourth-round pick who is big and athletic but was very erratic in college at Virginia Tech, went in against Denver. He was sacked by DeMarcus Ware on his first drop back, and then sacked again on the next play.
The Cardinals came into Sunday’s game at 3-0 despite Palmer’s shoulder injury, which has kept him out since Week 1. Stanton, a career backup in his eighth season, played well as the starter the past few weeks. But teams can’t keep digging down the depth chart at quarterback and expect success, so the Cardinals need some good news on one of their top two quarterbacks pretty soon.
