Helmet worn by Auburn’s Chris Davis in Iron Bowl to be auctioned
The 109-yard field goal return by Auburn’s Chris Davis to knock off Alabama as time expired in the Iron Bowl will remembered as the most iconic play of the 2013 college football season. Now, fans have a chance to obtain the helmet worn by Davis in an auction.
According to ESPN.com, the helmet will be auctioned off by Goldin Auctions, a firm that “acquired the helmet from a family friend of Davis.”
The helmet, which was also worn by Davis throughout the season and in the SEC and National Championship games, is signed by Davis and has an official “Game Used Iron Bowl 2013” inscription.
“I know there are several Auburn graduates who are big memorabilia collectors who will be bidding on this,” said Ken Goldin, president of Goldin Auctions.
The auction begins Oct. 6 and will conclude Nov. 1 with the bidding on the helmet starting at $5,000. Goldin told ESPN.com he believes the helmet will end up selling for “at least $25,000.”
Davis, a cornerback, went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft but signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent.
