Ryder Cup Saturday foursomes matches and predictions
The American side rallied on Saturday morning at the Ryder Cup, taking unexpected points from the Europeans. The afternoon foursomes (alternate shot) matches will determine which side carries the advantage into the 12 Sunday singles matches, making this the most critical session of the two days so far.
Match 13: Zach Johnson/Matt Kuchar (USA) vs. Jamie Donaldson/Lee Westwood (EUR): Kuchar was a contributor in his morning match with Bubba Watson against the juggernaut team of Justin Rose/Henrik Stenson. Teamed with a fresh Johnson, they should have an edge over Donaldson and Westwood, who lost badly in the morning fourballs.
PREDICTED WINNER: Zach Johnson/Matt Kuchar (USA)
Match 14: Jim Furyk/Hunter Mahan (USA) vs. Sergio Garcia/Rory McIlroy (EUR): While Furyk and Mahan were successful this morning in their fourballs match, they’re not likely to put up the same kind of fight against Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy, particularly when Garcia is a foursomes specialist.
PREDICTED WINNER: Sergio Garcia/Rory McIlroy (EUR)
Match 15: Jordan Spieth/Patrick Reed (USA) vs. Justin Rose/Martin Kaymer (EUR): Justin Rose played lights-out golf this morning in notching his third point of the week. However, partner Henrik Stenson has to sit to rest an ailing back. Meanwhile, Spieth and Reed are wondering what the last four holes of the course look like, winning both of their matches by 5-and-4 counts.
PREDICTED WINNER: Jordan Spieth/Patrick Reed (USA)
Match 16: Jimmy Walker/Rickie Fowler (USA) vs. Victor Dubuisson/Graeme McDowell (EUR): This American duo has played three very close matches, serving them up for a letdown against a rested Dubuisson and McDowell, who were a formidable duo on Friday.
PREDICTED WINNER: Victor Dubuisson/Graeme McDowell (EUR)
